ABOUT

ABOUT

Welcome to our page and to Limateerha House. We are a small B&B nestled beneath the Knocknadobar mountain, 3 miles from Kells Bay in a quiet, rural setting.

Ideally located for hikers on the Kerry Way, Limateerha House is only 500m off route and clearly signposted. For walkers wishing to avoid the unnecessary detour to Caherciveen, we are the perfect option, 15km from Glenbeigh and 27km from Waterville.

We  pride ourselves on our delicious homemade vegetarian meals and breakfasts as well as freshly cooked fish. We serve homemade seeded soda bread, homemade jams and marmalade, fresh vegetables from our very own polytunnel, and on a good day, freshly caught fish! Evening meals  and packed lunches are available with at least 24 hours notice.

SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO

Skellig Rock

Skellig Michael, a rocky island with an abandoned 7th-century Christian monastery, is a major destination point and Unesco World Heritage site. We can arrange boat trips to Skellig Michael but a few months notice is often required - it gets very booked up. Trips around the island can be organised more easily.

Cahergal Stone Forts.
Two of the most impressive of Iveragh's ancient stone forts are situated just outside of Caherciveen and well worth a visit. Sensitively restored, they give a real glimpse of life in ancient Ireland.

Caherlehillan
A short drive or 40 minute hike to one of Ireland's little known gems. Excavated in the 1990's, Caherlehillan is one of the earliest monastic sites and dates back to 400 AD - prior to the arrival of St Patrick.
Ballycarbery Castle

Ballycarbery Castle is the largest and most impressive of  the castles built on the peninsula. Dating back to approximately 1400 its remains consist of an ivy-covered tower house with an attached turret. It is only 3 km from Cahersiveen and opposite the Cahergal stone forts.

Skellig Ring
As recommended by Lonely Planet this little travelled 18km drive links Portmagee, Valentia Island and Ballinskelligs. Enjoy the ragged, wild and beautiful Atlantic coastline. If you feel you've earned it, why not stop off for coffee and more at the Skelligs Chocolate Factory opposite the stunning St. Finian's Bay?
Killarney National Park

Killarney National Park, near the town of Killarney, County Kerry, was the first national park in Ireland, created when Muckross Estate was donated to the Irish Free State in 1932. It is one of Europe's most beautiful parks and  covers 103 squared km.  Lakes, mountains and  deer - filled forests  leave visitors spellbound.

The Barracks
Visit Caherciveen's 19th century barracks built by the British to protect the companies laying the transatlantic cable to America. Its fairytale architecture comes as a surprise and with an unusual explanation!
Carrauntoohil

Carrauntoohil is the highest peak in Ireland. Located in County Kerry, it is 1,038 metres high and is the central peak of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks range.

Reviews

“This place was definitely the top one on our 20-day journey through Southern Ireland ! Nature surrounding the B&B is really stunning, the accommodating couple was very nice, helping and both are brilliant chefs ! :)” - David, Czech Republic.
